Our Master taught that on the Day of Judgment his followers would be justified or condemned based on their words. That is, we are all responsible for our speech. [James 1:26, 27; 3:1-3] Just so, then, the hurtful gossip or vindictive slanderer or false witness will come face to face with what the Lord described at Revelation 1:14-16; 2:12, 16, 18. Our Master’s words serve as a commentary on Ecclesiastes 5:1-7.
That "sweet Jesus" is all-forgiving is a mistaken notion fostered in the Christian Church by those clerics who teach what the flock wants to hear. [2 Timothy 4:3, 4] We need to "fear Christ" and when faced with decisions turn to his words in the Gospels. [Ephesians 5:21; 6:5; Philippians 2:12] The words of the Master above should cause us to ‘count to ten’ before we speak ill of others.
Abba bless you.
